Sound creates the vision

December 7, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Two things, observations…….life used to be more black and white, in actuality. The use of color in clothes, and housing was only for the rich or the Church. Stained glass windows, expensive dyes, were a rarity.

Now we live is a hypervisual world, where sound has been relegated to the background of image. In a talk on radiation and radio(at Electrical Activity, http://www.starandshadow.org.uk/), Honor Harger was interested in reaudifying. Radioastronomy is an aesthetic auditary experience, but often shown graphed in the visual relm.At http://www.radio-astronomy.net/ you can listen to a live feed of the sound of the universe as transmitted from radiotelescopes.

Its big, this world, and Australia more so

You see, a fair bit of western europe fits into Austrlia.

From my favourite home town (Adelaide) its over 2000kms to the west, 1300km to the centre and 1100km to the east. And in that area….a population of say 16 million people, excluding much of the populous south west.

Newcastle is definitely one of my favourite cities. I call it home for the meantime.

I wanted a non-trendy graph, but that will have to wait.

More city pairs i think are required.

distance
Adelaide(au) Newcastle(uk) 16266
Adelaide(au) Peth(au) 2136
Adelaide(au) Brisbane(au) 1599
Adelaide(au) Sydney(au) 1163
Adelaide(au) Alice Springs(au) 1330
Newcastle(uk) Helsinki(fi) 1939

I made this last night.
Its a variation on mossaka and lasagne, a bastard child of both.
There are both eggplant/aubergine slices and lasagne sheets in it, with a filling of chopped tomato, breadcrumbs, chopped challots and corgette/zucinni.Topped with a white sauce with fetta cheese and a sprinkling of chopped pak choi leaves.
Yum.
