‘Scientists and artists are both into revealing the invisible world, but scientists want to reveal it in ways that are repeatable,’ said Zaretsky, ‘and artists … are looking for an isolated instance of amazingness.’
I agree to a certain extent, scientists are trying to find patterns in life. As to whether something is repeatable, if it isn’t it tells us that there is more to know, the model doesn’t hold, the bucket isn’t watertight.
As for the artist, the naturalist is also interested in these isolated instances of amazingness. These events are very information rich, new vistas, new cascades of ideas on old problems.
