Quote from Adam Zaretsky

August 27, 2006 · 2 Comments

‘Scientists and artists are both into revealing the invisible world, but scientists want to reveal it in ways that are repeatable,’ said Zaretsky, ‘and artists … are looking for an isolated instance of amazingness.’

I agree to a certain extent, scientists are trying to find patterns in life. As to whether something is repeatable, if it isn’t it tells us that there is more to know, the model doesn’t hold, the bucket isn’t watertight.
As for the artist, the naturalist is also interested in these isolated instances of amazingness. These events are very information rich, new vistas, new cascades of ideas on old problems.

Things i like about Newcastle (and I guess england) is ths concept of the allotment. A parcel of land subdivided to allow those with no backyard at home to grow vegetables in real soil.
This belongs to a friend of mine, watering the hot soil brought back the smells of my Adelaide childhood in may dads vege patch.
